 BOTOX is a purified protein produced by the
Clostridium botulinum bacterium, which reduces the activity of the
muscles that cause those frown lines between the brows to form over time.
Tiny amount of purified toxin are injected into facial
muscle to paralyze them temporarily; skin stretches out, and wrinkles soften
or disappear.
How Botox Works image: This is an

receptors on the muscle, and acetylcholine either released or blocked by

contraction, and wrinkles. When acetylcholine is released, muscle contracts
and frown lines form.
Frown lines between brows, horizontal forehead lines and
crow’s feet. Not recommended for the lower face, as it can inhibit your
ability to smile.
Up to 30 mins. And the paralysis
isn’t permanent: muscles need to be retreated in three to six months.
Is it painful?
It feels like bee stings. The
injection site might be red and you may bruise, but there’s no pain
afterward. Exercise is discouraged for four to five hours.
